MILES GOLDSTEIN, LCSW-C

Miles has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of America, a Developmental Clinical Psychology Master’s Degree from Antioch College and a Post-Master’s degree in Organizational Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. He also has training in life coaching and coaches people in personal and professional areas of their lives. His focus in clinical psychotherapy has been on a wide range of developmental and life issues and challenges for children, adolescents and adults. He has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings. When he is not engaged in private practice, Miles works part-time at the Universities at Shady Grove seeing university students in their counseling center.
Primarily, Miles’ work has been at a private practice, working with a wide range of ages from children and adolescents and adults, working to help clients overcome symptoms of depression, anxiety, unhappiness, work, school and relationship struggles. Miles has the capacity to connect easily to children and adolescents and often has made connections when there has been previous resistance to therapy situations.
His approach is to create a nonjudgmental place of support so that clients can explore obstacles, feelings, thoughts and ultimately grow in positive, productive ways. He utilizes psychodynamic, cognitive and behavioral approaches. He is an interactive therapist who uses humor and empathy to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. Miles integrates complementary methodologies to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. He enjoys working with a diverse population and has an appreciation and understanding of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
Professional Interests: Miles has been interested in integrating psychology and secular Buddhist philosophy to help people feel happier in their daily lives. His interests in yoga, meditation and mindfulness are areas he hopes to share with others.
